Outreach Worker


Job description

This role will involve the running of a community tearoom (café) and library within the community centre to allow the community to have a place to come together and socialise through the medium of Irish. The role of the Outreach Worker will be to facilitate the opening of the library and café and to meet the needs of the community through facilitating possible meet up events, conversational circles and working with the rest of the team to create and provide any resources which may be needed within the community. Their role will be to manage stock within the café, prepare drinks and traybakes once training has been provided, keep on top of cleaning and record keeping as well as ensuring cataloguing in the library is up to date along with other duties as required. They will be the base contact for the community and allow us to work directly with those interested in the language within the community while providing the much needed and wanted services for them..

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the opening of the library and café.
  • Meet the needs of the community through facilitating possible meet up events, conversational circles and working with the rest of the team to create and provide any resources which may be needed within the community.
  • Manage stock within the café.
  • Prepare drinks and traybakes once training has been provided.
  • Keep on top of cleaning and recordkeeping.
  • Ensuring cataloguing in the library is up to date along with other duties as required.
  • Be responsible for reporting to management within the organisation.
  • Be expected to work well with others.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Able to manage time.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Some knowledge of the Irish language/willingness to learn.
  • Good communication skills for working with community.

Desirable Skills

  • Basic Food Hygiene.
  • Knowledge of IT system for library software (cataloguing) and spreadsheets for stocktake.
  • Good level of Irish.

Further Information

The Employer is: CONRADH NA GAEILGE BOIRCHE ÍOCHTAR Salary: 16/17 £5.28, 18/20 £7.49, 21/22 £10.18, 23/24 £10.42 per hour. Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer. The role is based in an Irish language community centre and so we are keen to hear from applicants with some level of Irish and who have an interest in the development of the language in the Mourne area.
