Job description

To assist the Cook and Assistant Cook in the preparation of nutritional meals to meet the needs of the residents, within the Christian ethos of the Council for Social Witness..

Responsibilities

• To assist the Cook/Assistant Cook with food preparation (cooking and baking).
• This job description is intended to be neither definitive nor restrictive and can be changed or augmented at any time to meet changing needs.
• To cook meals on a relief basis as and when required.
• To serve food.
• To take rubbish to bins.
• To clean and tidy work areas.
• To clean and tidy kitchen areas including shelves, drawers and cooker.
• To clean floors, tiles and appliances.
• To wash dishes.
• To assist with the preparation of snacks (eg. tea, sandwiches, suppers) etc.
• To prepare vegetables.
• To clean and tidy dining room.
• To carry out any other reasonable duty as required by the management of the Home, which is necessary for the support and well-being of the residents.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Evidence an understanding of and respect for the needs of older people.
• Willingness to work additional hours to meet the requirements of the Home.
• Awareness of health and safety practices within a working and residential environment.
• Experience of catering outside a domestic setting.
• Committed to working within the Christian ethos of the Home.
