Job description

The Employer is: SOUTH BELFAST COMMUNITY RESOURCES. BSCR is seeking an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting and raising educational aspirations to primary and post primary children & young people in an area with high levels of unemployment and social deprivation. If this sounds like you, please apply. BSCR provides free educational support through a primary school homework club several days per week, Transfer Test support for primary 6 & 7 pupils, 1-1 or small group study support for post primary school aged young people and Intensive GCSE support throughout the academic year. The post holder will not be responsible for the delivery of academic support. The post holder will be responsible for motivating and encouraging children and young people to positively engage with their educational studies to best support future outcomes. The post holder will support the current education programmes by working with colleagues to facilitate and support existing educational support services. Work includes liaising with existing youth services, volunteer mentors, Queen’s University Belfast and local schools to develop and maintain a creative and engaging programme of educational support. The post-holder will work with other departments within BSCR, as well as other community organisations to ensure that the programme is integrated into the wider community provision for children & young people from the local area. .

Responsibilities

  • To contribute to the planning, development and delivery of programmes to increase school/community links, raise aspirations and improve outcomes for children and families.
  • To support and encourage young people in their educational aspirations.
  • To coordinate tutors/volunteers within a range of groups and 1:1 sessions.
  • Help potential learners to overcome existing barriers to learning.
  • To work positively within a team and support the delivery of current programmes in an informal and formal setting.
  • To assist in the design and production of marketing materials.
  • To update BSCR social media platforms.
  • To engage in monitoring and evaluation as necessary, including the completion of monthly reports.
  • Collaborate with overlapping projects.
  • To ensure BSCRs policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Undertake such other relevant duties as may from time to time be required.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Be aged 16-24 years old upon application.
  • Have excellent organisational skills.
  • Experience of communication and engaging effectively with a diverse range of people/sectors.
  • Enthusiastic about inspiring and motivating young minds to achieve their educational aspirations.
  • BSCR values ambition and dedication to this role as more important than qualifications. To this, we will provide the necessary training to ensure successful applicants are competent within the role.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience using Social Media platforms and their tools.
  • Experience in paid or non-paid work with children /young people from areas of social deprivation.
  • Willingness to learn and further develop own self.

Further Information

The Employer is: BELFAST SOUTH COMMUNITY RESOURCES. Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended, and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer. Salary: 16-17 £6.40, 18-20 £8.60, 21 plus £11.44 per hour.
