Music Therapist


Job description

To use music creatively to help children with Down syndrome, aged 0 to 18, enhance their self expression, social interaction and language development and improve their access to and enjoyment of new, shared musical experiences and opportunities, facilitating successful integration into their community. .

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop and deliver a music therapy programme in partnerships with our current Music Therapist, comprising of both group and one-to-one settings for children with Down syndrome, offering a user-led approach
  • Create a safe, fun, learning and developmental environment for children and young people with Down syndrome
  • Ensure the impact and effectiveness of the programme through the implementation of high quality monitoring and evaluation
  • To develop and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with all Foyle Down Syndrome Trust members and staff, being committed as part of a team to providing high quality service provision to all our children with Down syndrome
  • Help undertake risk assessment for all activities to ensure that all health and safety requirements are met
  • Encourage children to explore a wide range of accessible musical instruments and their own voice to express themselves

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Applicants must be qualified Music Therapists and registered with HCPC
  • Proven experience of working with children with a learning disability
  • Knowledge of music therapy practice
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven ability to plan and manage activities and carry out risk assessment
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding
  • Completion of Enhanced Access NI Check

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of organising and providing music therapy for children with Down syndrome
  • Knowledge of the dynamics and impact of Down syndrome and how best to support children with the condition

3 year contract.This post is currently funded to 1st May 2027. Potential contract extension subject to funding.
