Job description
The post holder will be a part of a team that will create a welcoming and inclusive environment for anyone visiting someone in prison. The role is varied, and whilst the main substantive part of the role will be driving responsibilities inside the prison estate, you will also be required to support the Welcome Centre team with a range of duties including; offering guidance and support to visitors and undertaking cleaning and hospitality duties. .
Responsibilities
- Provide transport to the visitors into the prison grounds.
- To promote a friendly, caring and supportive atmosphere welcoming all who attend the visitor centres, buses and visiting halls.
- Support provision of Visitors Centre canteen facilities.
- Assist in the preparation and serving of food and drinks in the visitors centre and visits area.
- Clean and maintain canteen, kitchen equipment, visitor centres and toilets.
- Maintain health and safety standards and participate in cleaning duties.
- Building relationships over time to build trust and offer support and signpost to other services within the prison and beyond.
- To participate in family seasonal events for families and children.
- Keep appropriate records.
- Liaison with prison staff on behalf of visitors as appropriate.
- To undertake any relevant training in relation to the post such as NVQ in Childcare and Food Safety and Hygiene.
- To undertake any other duties as required by the Visitor Centre Supervisor.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Must hold a full clean driving licence, to include category D PCV entitlement and CPC. If there is relevant driving experience and category D PCV entitlement without CPC, CPC training will be provided.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to display appropriate understanding and sensitivity when supporting people.
Desirable Skills
- At least 12 months experience of driving large passenger vehicle
- Basic food hygiene certificate or willing to complete within first 6 months of appointment.
- Health and safety or First Aid Certificate or willing to complete within first 6 months of appointment
- Experience of working within a team
- Experience of working within the Criminal Justice System
- Experience of working with families under stress and an understanding of the issues they face
