Job description

Belfast Trust is committed to providing high standards of information and support to people affected by cancer. The Trust works in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, community, statutory, voluntary and independent providers to offer a high-quality cancer information and support service for patients, carers and the wider public. The service is coordinated by a team of staff within the Macmillan Information and Support Centres in the Royal Victoria Hospital and Belfast City Hospital. The Macmillan Health and Wellbeing Coordinator will work within the team to specifically support the ongoing development and management of a high-quality service throughout the Belfast Trust. They will have primary responsibility for service provision at the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Mater Infirmorum Hospital. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a responsive, person centred information and support service and will provide management to support staff and supervision for volunteers. The post holder will also contribute to planning, developing and promoting the service, ensuring that user feedback and operational knowledge contributes to service improvements. .

Responsibilities

  • Deliver face-to-face information and support to people affected by cancer, supporting them to access appropriate information and support throughout the cancer journey.
  • Provide support to those affected by cancer, particularly those with more complex enquires and support needs who have been referred to the service.
  • Work to achieve objectives within agreed timescales. Coordinate and facilitate the evaluation of work and its progress across the Belfast Trust Cancer Support Service.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • A Degree or professional qualification AND 2 years experience at band 4 level or above in a healthcare related role OR 4 years experience at band 4 level or equivalent in a healthcare related role.
  • Be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Have effective communication skills to meet the needs of the post in full.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working with people affected by cancer and /or other long term conditions and knowledge of their health care needs.
