Trainee Generalist Advice Worker


Job description

As a Trainee Generalist Advice Worker, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive advice and support to clients on a range of issues including welfare benefits, housing, debt, employment and consumer rights. Under the supervision and guidance of experienced advisors, you will learn to assess client needs, offer information and guidance, and signpost to appropriate resources or services. Responsibilities

  • Client support.
  • Conduct initial assessments to identify client needs and concerns.
  • Provide accurate and relevant information, advice and support on a range of issues including but not limited to welfare benefits, housing, debt management, employment rights and consumer rights.
  • Empower clients to understand their rights and options, helping them to make informed decisions.
  • Case management.
  • Maintain detailed and confidential case records using the organisation's database or case management system.
  • Monitor and follow up on client cases to ensure effective resolution and support continuity of care.
  • Research and information.
  • Stay up to date with relevant legislation, policies and procedures related to advice work.
  • Conduct research as necessary to provide accurate and current information to clients.
  • Referrals and signposting.
  • Identify appropriate internal and external services, agencies or resources to meet client needs.
  • Facilitate referrals to specialist services or organisations when required.
  • Training and development.
  • Participate actively in training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in advisory work.
  • Seek feedback from supervisors and peers to support continuous learning and improvement.
  • Administration.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, maintaining records and preparing reports as required.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport and empathize with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a commitment to delivering high-quality service to clients.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take direction from senior staff members.
  • Basic IT skills and proficiency in using standard office software (e.g. Microsoft Office).
  • Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality and data protection principles.

Desirable Skills

  • Communication skills: Learn to effectively communicate with clients from diverse backgrounds and with varying needs. This includes active listening, empathy and clear verbal and written communication to convey information, advice and support.
  • Problem-solving skills: Develop the ability to analyse complex situations, identify underlying issues and generate practical solutions to address clients' concerns.
  • Interpersonal skills: Learn to build positive relationships and rapport with clients, colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Research and information gathering: Acquire skills in researching relevant legislation, policies and resources to provide accurate and up to date information to clients.
  • Time management and organisation: Develop strong time management and organisational skills to handle multiple client cases, appointments and administrative tasks efficiently.

Further Information

The Employer is: LIGONIEL IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer. Salary: 16-17 £6.40, 18-20 £8.60, 21 plus £11.44 per hour.
