Job description

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established and growing in-house tax team within the Group Finance team of a large corporate organisation which offers you a varied role supporting Energia Group. The Group Tax Team are responsible for delivering the Group’s Tax Strategy through best-in-class tax compliance, efficient tax planning and accurate tax accounting. This is a great role suited to someone who is technically skilled and has a keen interest in the further development of themselves and others which will be pivotal to keeping the Group on top of new and emerging tax rules and obligations, assessing the impact of any changes, and advising on considerations for key strategic decisions. Reporting to the Group Tax Manager, and supported by the Tax Accountant, the Tax Manager will initially focus on managing tax compliance for the Group’s UK subsidiary companies, managing consolidated tax accounting for the Group, and developing business knowledge relative to the Group including engaging with internal finance teams, external advisers, and tax authorities. The Taxation Manager will play a key role in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the Group’s internal and external tax reporting to ensure compliance and support strategic decision making while ensuring adequate controls are in place. You will lead the continuous improvement of tax systems and processes in the group and maintain relationships with key partners across the Energia Group and externally. The role will suit a dedicated and highly motivated individual who is open to development and challenge and can collaborate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders. You will be a self-starter with a proactive, curious and solutions focused approach to your work who will challenge the status quo and look for improved ways of doing things. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for UK corporation tax compliance, including overseeing the preparation of CT returns and supplementary declarations including group relief, CIR, CFC, iXBRL etc.
  • Responsible for UK VAT compliance, including reviewing VAT returns and ensuring submissions comply with regulations (e.g. UK MTD).
  • Responsible for certain employee-related compliance e.g. UK PSA.
  • Co-ordinate global BEPS compliance and preparations e.g. Transfer Pricing, CbCR, Pillar 2.
  • Assist the UK and ROI HR and payroll teams on ad hoc queries e.g. employee mobility and benefits.
  • Assist the businesses with other UK and ROI taxes including energy specific taxes e.g. UK Electricity Generators Levy, UK Climate Change Levy.
  • Responsibility for UK tax provisions, disclosures, and journals for interim (quarterly) and year-end consolidated and subsidiary accounts.
  • Lead consolidated tax accounting for the Group.
  • Prepare tax forecasts for QIPs and planning purposes with regular updates and detailed variance analysis.
  • Advise on the correct tax treatment for transactions and new technologies.
  • Support Group businesses and corporate development teams with structuring decisions and due diligence.
  • Keep up to date with new and emerging UK and international tax legislation, regulations, requirements, and best practice.
  • Assist with tax risk management including UK SAO, ROI DCS, Group Tax Strategy, Corporate Criminal Offences and the maintenance and improvement of policies, systems, procedures, and controls.
  • Safeguard tax risk management including UK SAO, Group Tax Strategy, Corporate Criminal Offences and the maintenance and improvement of policies, systems, procedures, and controls including the tax risk register.
  • Manage, coach and develop direct reports.
  • Lead tax knowledge sharing and tax training of wider finance team.
  • Report to senior executive on key tax matters including tax update papers to the Board.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Recognised professional finance qualification (e.g. ACA / ACCA and / or CTA).
  • Strong UK tax technical expertise and keen awareness of emerging international tax landscape.
  • Experience preparing, managing, and reviewing corporation tax returns for large groups of companies using tax software (e.g. Alphatax).
  • Experience preparing, managing, and reviewing IFRS compliant tax accounting provisions and disclosures for groups of companies, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Tax advisory experience including analysis of complex tax issues and confident presentation of findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable ability to build relationships with stakeholders through effective, timely and relevant communication.
  • Demonstrable ability to take responsibility and initiative to plan and deliver work to strict deadlines without supervision.

  • Tax due diligence experience.
  • Transfer Pricing experience.
  • VAT compliance knowledge.
  • Experience Employee / Personal taxes knowledge.
  • Experience implementing new tax software solutions.
