Job description

This role will be located in Grosvenor Community Centre, a busy community, leisure, health and sports centre. The organisational ethos is to improve quality of life and contribute to the overall wellbeing and advancement of Belfast. The role of Childcare Support Worker will be located in both the Early Years Playgroup setting, Out of School Hours programme and within the Seasonal Summer Support programme. This position will contribute to the provision of family and childcare support services at Grosvenor Community Centre and will entail care for early years and for primary age children. The role will contribute to a high-quality team which provides cohesive childcare for children and a range of family support programmes. The post holder will work directly in a childcare setting, providing a diverse range of play, educational, social and developmental activities for children. This role entails providing parents and families with a high quality service, providing a warm, friendly and inclusive environment. The role will also entail working in a Summer Scheme programme. The role will involve meeting and greeting families on entry, supporting drop off and collection of children. The post holder will be supported to undertake training in areas such as child protection, safeguarding, administration, recordkeeping, early years and childcare development..

Responsibilities

  • Working as part of the Early Years and Childcare team to provide high quality services for families.
  • Undertaking regular training focused on childcare and project work.
  • Assisting in administrative duties linked to quality recordkeeping.
  • Meeting and greeting parents and children.
  • Contributing to observation processes linked to children's development.
  • Working to provide a clean and safe environment, internally and externally.
  • Supporting provision of food and breaks for children.
  • Providing ideas for play activities.
  • Undertaking training as and where required.
  • Engaging in team development (group based) activities.
  • Participating in staff development and strategic planning activities.
  • Undertake administrative duties using ICT including Microsoft Excel and Word, training will be provided.
  • Income collection and lodgements.
  • Working as part of the team to provide diverse activities to support arts and crafts, sports, health and wellbeing, educational, speech and language for early years aged children and primary school aged children.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Voluntary or paid experience in a childcare or community development setting.
  • Basic customer service abilities.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Willingness to undertake training.
  • Commitment to children's development.

Desirable Skills

  • The organisation intends to fully train up the successful applicant in further ICT skills, health and safety, emergency procedures and administrative training will be supplied as well as childcare, early years development and family support training.

The Employer is: GROSVENOR COMMUNITY CENTRE/RODEN STREET COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GROUP Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer. 16/17yrs £5.28, 18/20yrs £8.40, 21 and over £11.44 per hour
