Youth Work Assistant


Job description

As a Youth Work Assistant for GLOW, you will help in providing support to girls facing mental health challenges. Your primary focus will be on assisting the Youth Worker in the facilitation of programmes that promote mental wellbeing, empowerment and resilience among the youth in our community..

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of 'LILY' and 'Fearless and Female' programmes.
  • Assist in the provision of one-on-one support to girls facing mental health challenges. Offer guidance, encouragement and a listening ear.
  • Assist in facilitating group sessions, workshops and activities for young women and girls. Help to create a safe and supportive environment for participants to share their experiences and build connections.
  • Reach out to young women and girls in the community to raise awareness of GLOW's programmes and services. Engage with schools, youth organisations and other community partners to promote collaboration and participation.
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to programme coordination including maintaining participant records, preparing materials and tracking programme outcomes.
  • Data collection and reporting.
  • Ensure that programme activities are well documented and meet reporting requirements.
  • Assist in the maintenance of referral and service user databases and ensure all relevant data is uploaded to the database.
  • Evaluation and monitoring.
  • Assist in the monitoring of programme and participant progress and make necessary adjustments to keep programmes on track.
  • Stakeholder engagement.
  • Assist the Youth Worker in liaising with local organisations, schools, youth clubs, community centres, other voluntary organisations and develop working relationships that will promote GLOW and its services.
  • Communicate programme updates, outcomes and impact to relevant stakeholders.
  • Organisational responsibilities.
  • Attend monthly supervision and annual appraisals with the CEO.
  • Participate in team and organisational meetings, training and conferences ensuring continual professional development.
  • Establish a relaxed and friendly atmosphere which will maintain and enhance the quality of care to each service user and maximise their opportunities for choice.
  • Carry out other responsibilities that may be required, as commensurate with the post.
  • Employees of GLOW will be required to promote and support the mission and vision of the service.
  • Provide a caring service and treat those with whom they come into contact in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Carry out assigned duties and responsibilities in a manner which assures service users, colleagues and public safety.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through regular attendance and efficient completion of all.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures.
  • To report to the CEO annual leave, sickness and other absence information for yourself in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Health and safety.
  • To ensure that health and safety regulations are adhered to and to ensure that a healthy and safe environment is maintained for all those attending the programmes.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • A minimum of 6 months experience working with young people.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • IT competent including the ability to record on various electronic or web-based databases, Microsoft Word/PowerPoint/Outlook/Excel.
  • Sound planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a demanding workload and respond to changing demands and meet deadlines.

Desirable Skills

  • Hold Level 2 Diploma or Level 3 certificate in Youth Work Practice.
  • Experience of recruiting and supervising volunteers.
  • Experience in one-to-one support.
  • Experience in group facilitation, particularly with young women.
  • Knowledge of the challenges facing young people with diverse neurological profiles.
  • Working knowledge of the youth sector within Greater Belfast. Knowledge of the difficulties and barriers faced by women and girls within marginalised communities and a passion for women's empowerment.

Further Information

The Employer is: GLOW NI Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer. Salary: 16-17 £6.40, 18-20 £8.60, 21 plus £11.44 per hour.
