Trainee Stonemason


Job description

Restoration Works Ltd specialises in work to traditional/historic buildings and structures. Typical projects involve restoration/conservation of the historic building fabric using sympathetic materials and practices. Stonework and lime work form a large part of what we do. .

Responsibilities

  • Timekeeping, listening and learning.
  • Teamwork is an important aspect of what we do and you will need to play your part, helping the team achieve their daily, weekly and project goals.
  • Preparation of lime mortars.
  • Recognising and selecting appropriate stone.
  • Identifying and removing inappropriate repairs.
  • Raking out and repointing of existing fabric.
  • Building/rebuilding of stonework.
  • Cutting and dressing of stone.
  • Aftercare and correct curing of mortars.
  • Cleaning and protection of stonework.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent).
  • A valid driving licence and own vehicle or access to a lift to work.
  • Be a strong team player with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work outdoors and on scaffold.
  • Flexibility (projects will be based all over NI but mainly in Counties Antrim and Down).
  • Interest in stonework.
  • Be physically fit and mobile.
  • Have good problem-solving skills.
  • Have good communication and social skills.
  • Be motivated by challenge.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of construction or agriculture sectors.
  • Interest in traditional buildings.
  • Current CSR Health and Safety card (or equivalent).
  • All relevant PPE/RPE and training will be provided.

Further Information

The Employer is: RESTORATION WORKS LTD Although this is a full time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer. Salary: 16-17 £6.40, 18-20 £8.60, 21 plus £11.44 per hour. Benefits: Competitive salary. Workplace pension. Final qualification of NVQ Level 3 Stonemasonry will be awarded on successful completion of traineeship.
