Playgroup Assistant
Job description
Help prepare and fully set out the playroom appropriately before the sessions commences and tidy up after the session ends. Assists or takes the lead on playgroup activities as directed by the playgroup Leader and always offers appropriate stimulation and support to the children. Participates and helps with the planning of daily, weekly and monthly programmes of activities and events in accordance with desirable learning outcomes, so that the children are experiencing the full breadth of the curriculum as laid down in Department of Education Guidance for Pre-School Education as directed by the Leader Carry out regular observations and make assessments of each child’s needs within the group as directed by the Playgroup Leader. Attend and participate in all staff meetings and assist in curriculum planning. Take part in special events and group outings. Encourage the active participation of all parents by seeking their involvement in their children’s learning. Listen to, encourage, enable, stimulate and ensure the safekeeping of the children. Attend relevant evening meetings and courses as directed by the Leader or committee. Course fees will be met by the management for approved training Advise the Leader of any matter requiring attention e.g. concerns about a child or equipment needing repaired / replaced. Keep strictly confidential any personal information regarding the child. .

Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- An understanding of child development and the importance of parental involvement
- Demonstrate an understanding of policies and procedures within an early years setting
- Good understanding of child protection
- Friendly, caring, helpful, open-minded
- Willing to undertake training to continue with personal development
Desirable Skills
- NVQ / QCF Level 2/3 (or working towards) in child care, learning and development or Playwork
- Current First aid, child protection and basic food hygiene completed and in date.
