The Employer is: ENAGH YOUTH FORUM. The YouthLinks Programme Worker will be part of the Enagh Youth Forum Youth Work Team play a pivotal role in delivering our YouthLinks project across the Strathfoyle and Greater Area. The aim of the Youthlinks project is to ensure life changing impacts for vulnerable young people living in the Greater Strathfoyle area. The YouthLinks Programme Worker will work alongside the youth work team to ensure successful facilitation of youth support activities, projects and services for young people aged 10-24 years old across the Strathfoyle and Greater Enagh area. Core areas of programme planning and delivery for this post will include supporting young people to advance youth safety, environmental education, life skills and learning and health and well being initiatives. In addition YouthLinks is about developing and co-designing programmes and projects that meet identified needs and promote active citizenship, social justice and youth rights. The person appointed will work alongside young people and a team of staff and volunteers to: Support young people and their support networks in the planning and delivery of the YouthLinks Project in line with project outcomes. The programme worker will support, entitle and motivate young people to affect positive change in their own lives, the lives of others, society, and the wider environment. The programme worker will work to and be committed to providing positive experiences and learning opportunities through a range of holistic and inclusive approaches. The programme worker will assist the youth work team to recruit, develop and train a ‘Youth Bank’ committee made up of young people who will be supported to help manage budgets and enable other young people from neighboring rural communities to develop and fund their ideas. .

Responsibilities

  • Provide a positive non-judgmental positive presence, listening ear and unconditional positive regard;
  • Enable young people to have ownership of their own base, event plan their own activities;
  • Enable young people to become stakeholders in their own community, have their voices heard, valued and made matter;
  • Support young people to develop their ideas and interests into pathways for employment;
  • Support young people to develop or source their own accredited personal and social development courses
  • Promote the value of equal opportunities based on mutual respect: respect for yourself, respect for work, respect the environment, respect the other, and when appropriate, present respectful challenges;
  • Enable young people to campaign and lobby for equality, social justice, the environment, wildlife protection, and zero waste and for better services for young, rural people.
  • Reach out, include and engage young people in the community to raise awareness of YouthLinks Programmes and services. Engage with schools, youth organisations and other community partners to promote collaboration and genuine inclusive participation.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Level Two OCN in Youth Work and Two years experience in a paid capacity.
  • Or OCN Level Two in Youth Work & three years continuous experience working in a Youth & Community work-based setting again in a paid capacity.
  • Knowledge of and working commitment to a youth led model of practice and youth rights based approach.
  • Have an innate ability / capacity to reach, include and engage young people in rural areas to develop their own ideas
  • Must be competent in supervising groups of young people
  • Must be a confident and competent practitioner
  • Must be fully aware issues impacting young people in rural communities
  • Have experience / knowledge in enabling young people to develop their own ideas & help manage budgets / resources
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • A good standard of spoken and written English
  • Must be competent in carrying out essential administrative duties associated with the post/project.
  • Must be competent in the use of Microsoft computer packages, especially Microsoft Word, Excel & Powerpoint.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation requirements
  • A willingness to undertake/attend any relevant training, workshops, or seminars necessary to successful development of the YouthLinks programme
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and weekends

Desirable Skills

  • Degree in Youth & Community work or other Social Care or related profession or its equivalent
  • Access to a suitable means of transport to carry out post duties which may include travel to neighboring areas to promote the YouthLinks Project
  • Knowledge of/and experience in working with youth & community organisations and statutory agencies to make positive interventions with young people
  • Knowledge of health and safety, diversity awareness and safeguarding and how these relate to children, young people and vulnerable adults.
