Job description

To plan, organise and manage the development, coordination, and effective delivery of the Association’s area youth provision. To provide and monitor projects and activities, centered on the promotion of active participation by young people, the testing of values and beliefs and the exploration of their acceptance and understanding of others. .

Responsibilities

  • Management of resources within the programme including budget, staffing and equipment
  • Implementation of Youth provision delivery plan
  • Development of a creative and innovative programme and action plan for face to face delivery in line with the Delivery plan
  • Reporting to funders on the implementation of the Delivery plan
  • Management, induction and training of staff and volunteers within the Youth Provision
  • Work flexibly as part of the Youth Work Team to recruit and engage young people
  • Lead in the use of the Engagement Framework to measure participation with young people.
  • Ensure the implementation of Association policies through the programme activities i.e. equal opportunities, safeguarding, health and safety, etc.
  • Form, develop and maintain positive working relationships with other agencies
  • Ensure that the Youth Provision work collaboratively with other YMCA services
  • Ensure that programmes and activities respond to the needs of children and young people across Carrickfergus
  • Ensure that all administration relating to the Youth Provision is maintained to a suitable standard, specifically:
  • Managing the process of effective data collection, monitoring and evaluation for reporting and analysis using Upshot as well as other methods
  • Ensuring staff are compliant with YMCA procedures including maintenance and replacement of equipment
  • Safeguarding sensitive data
  • Cash handling and Tuck Shop management, stock collection and control
  • Maintain and support programmes to meet quality standards.
  • Work with the Youth Services Manager to:
  • Deal appropriately with suggestions, child protection concerns and complaints.
  • Develop your own skills and knowledge within the job.
  • Manage the Youth Provision budget, monitor and control the use of resources and make recommendations for expenditure.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • A degree level qualification in youth work, social work or community development and a minimum of 2 years full time experience of working with young people in a relevant setting Or
  • A minimum of 5 years part time experience of working with young people in a relevant context and a recognised youth work qualification (OCN level 2&3)
  • Experience in developing and facilitating work with young people across a wide age range
  • Experience of working in a leadership position with young people in a youth club setting
  • Experience leading a team of staff & volunteers
  • Experience of reporting to funders
  • Knowledge of good youth work practice
  • Knowledge, understanding and application of risk assessment, health & safety, safeguarding
  • Demonstrate innovation, creativity and initiative
  • Development of new ideas and initiatives to support youth development and participation and the ability to implement & evaluate these activities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop & maintain appropriate relationships with young people
  • Ability to lead a team
  • Group facilitation skills
  • Excellent planning and organising skills
  • Computer literate

Further Information

This post will be full time with the expectation of working 35 hours per week. The Youth Provision responds to the needs of young people and as a result some evening & weekend work will be required, there will be the expectation of working 2-3 evenings per week Time off in lieu (TOIL) will be negotiated with the Youth Services Manager. JOB DURATION: Until 31st March 2025 (extension subject to funding)
