As a part of The Morning Star kitchen team, you’ll demonstrate a keen interest in delivering an extraordinary level of food service to our customers. As part of this role, will support the kitchen team in the day to day running of all aspects of a busy and dynamic gastro pub. This role may include working on your own in quieter situations. Preparing, cooking and presenting food in line with required standards..

Responsibilities

  • Preparing, cooking and presenting food in line with required standards.
  • Making sure that food is served promptly.
  • Monitoring food production to ensure consistent quality and portion size.
  • Assist in maintaining a 5 star hygiene rating.
  • Following relevant hygiene, health and safety guidelines.
  • Prepare and cook menu items.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Creativity for preparing interesting and innovative dish and recipe ideas, we would ask the new team members to come up with some menu ideas and cook and plate each element of the dish then produce a recipe card to go along with it.
  • Decision making to make decisions quickly and efficiently. The kitchen is a fast-paced environment, and a chef has to make numerous decisions at once in order to ensure that orders all leave the kitchen in a timely order.
  • Organisational skills - our trainee chefs would be responsible for the safe food handling on a daily basis. This includes receiving incoming goods, ensuring food is labelled with date stock rotated accordingly.
  • Critical thinking in a fast paced environments.
  • Working well in a team.

Desirable Skills

  • Hardworking both on your own or within a team.
  • Knowledge of the food industry, including food knowledge.
  • Learn and managing HACCP procedures.
  • Basic food hygiene and stock rotation processes.
  • Basic food preparation & knife skills.
