This JobStart opportunity will provide a young person (aged 16-24 years) who is not in employment with experience in supporting young people to connect with nature and develop the skills and confidence to become future green leaders. As an Outdoor Leadership Intern, you will be required to assist with the planning, facilitating and delivery of outdoor activities that will aid the Charity and youth workers in their provision of services, allowing for more impactful services to be offered to young people across the region. This role will be required to support the Charity’s youthwork team, giving you exposure to a variety of settings within the charity and youthwork sector. The ideal candidate is expected to behave in a professional manner at all times and adhere to YouthAction charter of expected behaviours. This post will require you to be available for evening work and weekend work when required. .

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the wider YouthAction Team and Youth Work Team in identifying and organising outdoor activities to facilitate learning.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of outdoor activities and workshops - identifying areas where outdoor activities could be utilised across the Charity.
  • Engage with third parties including external suppliers who provide outdoor activities and events to organise activities for workshops as required.
  • Schedule and assist in the facilitation of outdoor activities for workshops as identified.
  • Promote the benefits of outdoor activities across the Charity.
  • Encourage young people engaged with YouthAction to participate in outdoor activities and empower them with the skills and confidence to become future green leaders.
  • Act as a green leader within the Charity.
  • Provide updates through reports and presentations to the Senior Leadership team on the outdoor activities that have been engaged with the Charity and their effectiveness.
  • Contribute to the Charity's sustainability strategy.
  • Work effectively as a member of the YouthAction team.
  • To comply with YouthAction's policies and duty to care at all times.
  • Carry out any other duties that may be reasonable and necessary for the effective operation of the programme delivered by the Charity.
  • As well as 'on the job' training, the opportunity to undertake a relevant training course/qualification may be available under the JobStart scheme.
  • As part of the requirements of the JobStart scheme, an internal mentor at YouthAction will meet the Outdoor Leadership Intern during the duration of the role, to agree and review a personal training plan (PTP).
  • Set learning goals, assist with CV development, and job search support for career progression.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Possess a keen interest in outdoor learning and the development of young people through outdoor activities.
  • Possess a sound knowledge of ICT skills and social media skills.
  • An effective and confident communicator.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Able to work independently and on initiative
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in the charity/youthwork sector.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous charity/youthwork experience.
  • Previous experience working with young people in the community.
  • Previous experience engaging with third parties and external suppliers.

Further Information

The employer is: YOUTH ACTION NORTHERN IRELAND. Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer. Wage: 16-17 £6.40, 18-20 £8.60, 21 plus £11.44 per hour.
