Job description

The Employer is: SAINTS YOUTH CENTRE. Main purpose is to work alongside our team of paid staff and volunteers to assist in the delivery a programme of informal education, information, advice, guidance and activities. Helping to facilitate a welcoming, safe and secure environment at a variety of Centre and street-based locations where young people of all backgrounds are able to build meaningful relationships with our staff team. Typical activities involve: Support and administering youth and community projects and resources. Assessing the needs of young people and planning and delivering programmes related to areas such as health, fitness, smoking, Substance Misuse, relationships and bullying. Running creative arts based activities, community & environmental projects, residential activities outdoor education and sporting activities. Befriending, mentoring and supporting individuals in various settings. Undertaking administrative tasks, verifying information and responding to queries. Working with parents and community groups to support for improved provision and acting as an advocate for young peoples interests. .

Responsibilities

  • To assist in running of the programme as and when required.
  • To communicate with the Youth Worker In Charge or specialist support where necessary.
  • To assist and participate in activities and discussions with young people.
  • To assist with necessary programme set-up and clean-up.
  • To undertake required record keeping procedures including reporting verbally to the Youth Worker In Charge and completing any relevant forms.
  • To assist if necessary, at additional events and projects.
  • All volunteers are expected to comply with statutory requirements and Saints Youth Centre policies and procedures when carrying out their work.
  • All volunteers are required to maintain service user confidentiality, subject to Saints Youth Centres confidentiality arrangements.
  • Volunteers train on the job, supported by experienced colleagues. Safeguarding training is mandatory for all youth staff.
  • All Volunteers are to participate in support/information meetings and one to one supervision meetings.
  • Additional relevant training courses/workshops are available as required.
  • Direct supervision will be given by Youth Worker In Charge.
  • Developments of team and leadership skills, taking part in fun activities, assessing training to further personal development, meeting a challenge.

  • Patience, tolerance, flexibility.
  • A sense of adventure and a willingness to try new things.
  • Ability to treat young peoples concerns with respect, tact and sensitivity, whilst always being aware of the limits that are required by confidentiality and the necessary boundaries that govern the young person/youth support worker relationship.

Further Information

Work time: 6.30pm to 9.30pm x 3 evenings 9 hours daytime, 2.00pm-5.00pm Tues-Thurs 9 hours 7 hours admin & training. The Employer is: SAINTS YOUTH CENTRE. Salary: 16-17 £6.40, 18-20 £8.60, 21 plus £11.44 per hour. Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended, and it could lead to a permanent position.
