Enhanced Recovery Nurse
Job description
Act as a role model demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership to others. To work autonomously with the Colorectal Consultant Team, Ward Nursing team and Multi-disciplinary team to establish an Enhanced Recovery Care Programme Pathway. To be pivotal to the delivery of the Enhanced Recovery Programme by co-ordinating patient care from an outpatient, inpatient and community setting. To see patients at pre-assessment clinic and throughout their inpatient stay, reinforcing the goals of an Enhanced Recovery Programme and working alongside the ward based nursing and multidisciplinary teams. To collaborate with the multidisciplinary team with regard to discharge planning and the implementation of a colorectal telephone review clinic. .
Responsibilities
- Develop an Enhanced Colorectal Recovery Pathway in conjunction with the Colorectal Consultants and Multi-disciplinary team, including the development of local policies and protocols to support the delivery of the Programme.
- Provide professional and clinical leadership in all issues related to the Enhanced Colorectal Recovery Programme for patients, carers, relatives, nurses and other professionals throughout the Trust.
- Contribute to the development, delivery and evaluation of Enhanced recovery pathway education programme for nurses and all other professional groups as appropriate.
- Work in conjunction with the Consultants in the collection of data relevant to their work streams and facilitate the input of data on to the colorectal database.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the live NMC Register.
- Have a Nursing Degree AND 3 years post-registration experience in a Surgical Ward managing patients undergoing Colorectal surgery
- OR Have 5 years post-registration experience as a Band 5 including 3 years in a Surgical Ward managing patients undergoing Colorectal surgery and hold a post- registration Certificate in Surgical Nursing.
