Senior Pharmacy Assistant
Job description
To assist the Lead Pharmacy Technicians in the delivery of safe, timely, appropriate and quality pharmacy aseptic and non-aseptic dispensing and distribution services to designated wards and departments served by the Specialist services team. To act as a link between pharmacy and appropriate ward nursing staff to ensure appropriate stock is readily available within the designated ward area as required. To manage and maintain appropriate pharmacy stock levels including delivery of comprehensive bulk issue service, stock rotation, expiry date checking, overstock / non-stock monitoring and returns. To ensure that pharmacy assistant staff working within the specialist services are trained appropriately for the range of duties expected of them, conducting competency assessments and maintaining appropriate training records accordingly..
Responsibilities
- Refer any issues, queries or incidents to the appropriate staff keeping lead technicians informed at all times.
- Assist with maintaining the supply of extravasation kits for onward distribution to relevant wards and users of cytotoxic medication.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- A minimum of 1 years experience as a Pharmacy Assistant (ATO) in hospital, retail or pharmaceutical industry.
- 3 GCSEs (Grades A to C) to include English Language and Mathematics or equivalent.
- NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services (Level2 Certificate in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Staff) or willing to enrol at next opportunity ( normally September) and successfully complete this course.
