Job description

To lead the development, integration and maintenance of a high quality patient-centred radiotherapy review, information and supportive care service for patients and their carers across the full radiotherapy pathway. To lead the non-medical led treatment review service for patients undergoing radiotherapy at the North West Cancer Centre. To provide expert clinical/technical support for the care of patients undergoing radiotherapy. To manage a team of advanced practice radiographers (Treatment Review and Information & Support Specialist Radiographers) and the team of radiographers rotating through the Radiotherapy Clinic section of the department. This is a key post having direct responsibility for effective management and clinical leadership of one or more designated site specialist areas of the clinical radiotherapy service. S/he will play a key role in the multi-professional team with responsibility for a clinical caseload across the radiotherapy pathway from MDT referral, through to discharge and follow-up care. S/he will be responsible for the establishment and management of radiotherapy consent, planning, treatment review and post treatment clinics, the development of care pathways and management of treatment related toxicities for radiotherapy patients. S/he will also be responsible for the development and implementation of new radiotherapy techniques, in regard to the clinical evaluation and management of radiation dose to patients. He/she will provide highly specialised clinical/technical support for the care of patients undergoing radiotherapy. They will be expected to undertake non-medical prescribing for radiotherapy patients in accordance with legislative and statutory guidance, Trust policies and procedures within agreed clinical guidelines where appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • To act as the Lead Radiographer in designated Radiotherapy Clinics. To lead the non-medical led aspects of the Treatment Review service for patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • 5 years post qualification experience in therapeutic radiography with at least 2 years clinical experience at Band 7 or above. Evidence of autonomously undertaking protocol-led Radiographer Treatment Review for a period of at least 12 months.

Desirable Skills

  • MSc in Radiation Science or equivalent. Completed postgraduate/MSc level module qualification in Non-Medical Prescribing.
