Job description

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic personal assistant to provide one to one support for an individual with autism and learning difficulties in their work placements. The personal assistant will provide practical, physical and emotional support. The current work placements involve gardening and other outdoor activities at well-established organisations. There is also scope for the personal assistant to use their initiative in developing future indoor or outdoor activities that would be fulfilling for the individual. .

Responsibilities

• Plan, explain and assist the person to carry out a wide range of gardening and outdoor activities in a structured environment, in a way that will suit their individual needs.
• Plan, explain and assist the person to engage in other recreational and leisure activities that will suit their individual needs.
• Assist the person with other personal and development tasks that would help to develop their independence and life skills.
• Ensure vigilance is exercised at all times in relation to the person's health, safety and well being.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Experience of working with individuals with autism/learning disability.
• Knowledge of Autism and how it impacts on a person's life.
• Be able to relate well to people with autism and demonstrate sensitivity to their needs.
• Be able to work as both a lone worker and a team member.
• Be able to provide relationship continuity and stability for an individual with autism/learning disability.
• Hold a valid driving licence and have access to a car.
