Job description

The Playgroup Leader will be responsible for the day to day running of the Preschool to ensure safe, stimulating play in a caring and welcoming environment for children and their families in line with DHSSPS Minimum standards for children under age 12, the Children (Northern Ireland) Order 1995 and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. This will involve planning, preparing and delivering play-based activities appropriate for children aged 0-4 years..

Responsibilities

• To lead short, to long-term planning for the group.
• The assessment, monitoring and recording of individual children's development.
• Responsible for the management and development of the staff including the allocation and monitoring of all work.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Experience of managing staff.
• At least 2 years' experience in a setting implementing the Department of Education NI Early Year's Curriculum in the last 5 years.
• QCF 5 Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development or equivalent.
• At least 2 years' paid work in an Early Year's setting in the last 5 years.

Desirable Skills

• Proven competence in IT.
• A Degree in Early Year's Education.
• Previous paid experience as a Leader/Deputy.
• Experience of ETI inspection and of Early Years accreditation.
• Current basic food hygiene qualification.
• Current Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
• Safeguarding/Child Protection Training to Designated Officer.
• Proven knowledge of Health & Safety Risk Assessments.

The overall policies and procedures of the group will be laid down by the Management Committee. Within the terms of these policies, the Leader is responsible for the day-to-day running of the group and ensuring that there is a safe, caring and welcoming environment for children and their families.
