Hours: Full-Time 37.5 hours per week (working hours) Responsible To: Childcare Manager/Shankill Women’s Centre Manager Location: Small Wonders Childcare, 4-8 Craven Street, Belfast, BT13 1JJ Line Manager: Childcare Manager Salary: £23,010 per annum (£11.80 per hour) Aim of Post: To provide healthy, nutritional food for Childcare Unit and Annex Buildings as directed. .
Responsibilities
- Prepare healthy & nutritious food for children - daily as directed.
- Ensure effective stock control of ingredients in advance of requirement.
- Ensure minimal food wastage and be mindful of associated costs of any wastage.
- Be aware of portion control in accordance with the age of the children in our care.
- Ensure kitchen facility is kept to high standard of cleanliness.
- Ensure Health & Safety measures are in place.
- Ensure paperwork for Environmental Health is completed accurately on a daily basis.
- Ensure effective stock control of domestic cleaning products and items (signed off by Line Manager)
- Communicate effectively with Manager and Childcare Staff
- Plan menus in advance (signed off by Line Manager).
- To prepare food orders in advance in-line with agreed menus. This will require Tesco online shopping or physical visits to shops.
- Manage a budget with weekly purchase of ingredients.
- Weekly check and maintenance of stock control.
- Clean kitchen entirely: including cupboards inside and out, clean all appliances, skirting boards, architrave and kick boards on doors of kitchen.
- All essential paperwork is up-to-date, accurate, signed and filed correctly.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Minimum 2 years experience working as an employed Cook within a professional setting.
- Knowledge of Food Hygiene issues.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety issues.
- Previous experience of food preparation.
- Experience of managing a small budget.
- Knowledge of stock control.
- Experience of usage of food preparation equipment.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
- Prepared to be adaptable and flexible.
- Good organisational skills.
Desirable Skills
- Level II Award in Food Safety in Catering (or be prepared to undertake this training).
- NVQ Level II in Professional Cookery (or be willing to undertake this training).
- A keenness to undergo further training in relation to post.
