Advanced Biomedical Scientist/ICT Lead


Job description

They will be responsible for ensuring the efficient day to day running of a section within Biochemistry utilising the resources available and to implement senior management decisions relating to department and trust policy. The post holder will be required to support all IT related activities undertaken by the Clinical Biochemistry Department as required. The post holder will be responsible for the implementation and validation of IT projects including Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), currently LabCentre, software and equipment upgrades in the Clinical Biochemistry laboratories, in compliance with good practice and the requirements of regulatory and accreditation bodies. The post holder will take responsibility for working in partnership with key stakeholders to ensure that different phases of projects meet the agreed timescales for full operation and implementation. The post holder will also take direction from the Laboratory Service Managers and Clinical Leads on day-to-day matters relating to all aspects of UKAS accreditation and patient and staff safety in the laboratory service. .

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the highest scientific standards are maintained and contribute to the improvement of technical and scientific standards within the department.
  • Assist in the setting up, monitoring and maintenance of quality control procedures.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • MSc Biomedical Science; or an IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma; or be a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science or equivalent.
  • IBMS Specialist Portfolio or equivalent.
  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist in a relevant discipline.

Desirable Skills

  • Computer programming skills and qualifications.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), middleware solutions and relational databases.
