Positive Behavioural Support Lead-Lisburn Supported Living Service Each Positive Behaviour Support Lead will work as part of a dedicated team to provide a consistently high quality active support service within a caring environment, ensuring that both service users and staff are treated with dignity and respect. Working in Lisburn Supported Living Services is an incredibly challenging but equally rewarding service. It is a supported living setting that facilitates a bespoke placement for individuals with complex needs that includes, ill mental health, learning disability, and autism coupled with behaviours that challenge. As a supported living facility, using the principles of positive behaviour support, as a team we have been able to actively support and positively improve the lives of the individuals we support. In Lisburn SLS, the service user is at the centre of everything that we do, therefore the role of PBS lead is very bespoke to the service user’s needs. The PBS lead role is very much hands on, where the lead will have a high level of active engagement with service users in all areas of their daily lives. As a supported living facility this will include personal care, medication management and administration, meal preparation, cleaning and laundry, money management, activity planning, facilitating appointments, assisting with family visits and setting future goals. Where the service user does not have the capacity or capability to complete these tasks with a level of independence, the PBS lead and Positive Behavioural Support Worker team will complete these tasks on their behalf. The PBS lead will model and provide advice on approaches on a daily basis to quality assure PBS Worker application of bespoke PBS plans and consistency in care. Due to the support that our service users require, there is a high staffing ratio of 3:1 in their home or 4:1 in the community. Working in partnership with the Trust, our team gather and collate data to implement bespoke PBS plans to improve the lives of the individuals we support. Through a key worker system, the use of advanced positive behaviour methodologies and through liaising with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to include- Intensive Support Service, social worker and clinical Psychologist. The Positive Behaviour Support Leads will be responsible for overseeing programmes of support and coordinating the delivery of these by fully immersing themselves in their application and actively supporting the team of Positive Behavioural Support Workers and service users on a daily basis. You will be champions in the positive behaviour support approach, and Praxis Care will support you to attain competence through formal qualifications and experience and expect that you contribute to the dissemination of understanding of PBS across the organisation..

Responsibilities

  • To plan, co-ordinate and implement the safe transition of new Service Users into service and community where necessary in consultation with the MDT
  • To liaise with Service User families and relevant members of multi-disciplinary teams, community groups and voluntary bodies with the aim of promoting the Service User needs
  • To coordinate the planning, development and implementation of individual care and support plans to enhance and maximise the capabilities and independence of the Service Users
  • In consultation with the MDT and management, PBS leads will identify specific areas of data collection that are required, agree how this data will be gathered, collated
  • To coordinate ongoing assessment and review in a regular and systematic basis through the completion of suitable assessment models
  • To take the lead in challenging and complex situations and ensure the safety of service users and staff through the appropriate management of violence and aggression.
  • To provide active support in relation to the physical, emotional and personal needs of Service Users, ensuring that work within the scheme is Service User focussed
  • To have a full working knowledge of positive behavioural support and systems theory and to be able to exercise judgement in identifying and addressing complex behaviours where a range of options and the implications of each of these
  • To liaise appropriately with Praxis Cares Clinical Psychologist & Management to devise strategies that will further the needs of the service users
  • To act in the best interests of the Service User at all times, including taking timely action if the service users wellbeing is jeopardised.
  • To provide effective leadership, supervision and management to a team of Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Knowledge of mental health/learning disabilities/ autism and Professional social work qualification; Professional nursing qualification; Allied Health professional qualification; Masters in Behavioural Analysis
  • Special educational needs teaching qualification; Psychology degree with 2 years paid employment in a learning disability or mental health setting
  • Or: level 5 diploma in Leadership in health & social care and 2 years paid employment with supervisory experience
  • Or: successful completion of QCF 3 with 2 years supervisory experience and willing to complete QCF 5 within 18 months of employment
  • 2 years paid experience providing care and support to Individuals with Autism, Learning disabilities, complex needs and/or behaviours that may challenge
  • Good interpersonal skills; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Excellent organisational skills; Physically capable to fulfil the requirements of the role
  • Good computer skills; Good assessment & evaluation skills
  • Must be able to cope emotionally with aggression and potential violence; Ability to remain calm and composed when dealing with challenging situations
