Responsibilities

• Planning and supervising the work of Waterways Ireland's Operational staff and the assigned Construction staff.
• Working and liaising with Technicians, Engineers, Senior Engineers and other staff on construction and maintenance works.
• Liaising with suppliers regarding the purchase of materials in accordance with the guidelines set down in Waterways Ireland's Financial Memorandum and preparation of paperwork for reconciliation of procurement cards.
• Preparing Safety Plans and carrying out risk assessments and safety inspections where necessary on works being carried out on the Erne Navigation and Ulster Canal.
• Working with Technicians, Engineers/Senior Engineers and Office/Stores staff to procure materials and services from a wide range of suppliers in accordance with the Financial Memorandum to ensure maximum productivity.
• Carrying out of inspection and maintenance works on navigation channels, jetties, slipways, navigation markers, signage and public amenity facilities.
• Liaising with M&E section regarding the inspection and maintenance of fleet, plant and equipment.
• Taking a proactive approach towards complying with the safety obligations of Waterways Ireland.
• Working at varied sites under limited direct engineering supervision.
• Comply with and actively promote Waterways Ireland policies and procedures on all aspects of equality.
• Complete all training as required by Waterways Ireland within specified timeframes.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Have knowledge and experience of the supervision of civil engineering works. Have knowledge and awareness of Health Safety and Welfare practice and legislation. Have good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate, clearly and concise.

Desirable Skills

• Have knowledge and experience of the construction and maintenance of engineering works on or near water. Have experience of supervising and planning work and of supervising employees. Have experience of working with minimum supervision.
