Job description

The post holder will be expected to: As Clinical Lead be responsible for the development and delivery of a high quality effective, efficient and flexible Orthopaedic Integrated Clinical Assessment and Treatment Service (ICATS) within South Eastern Trust. Assist the AHP Professional Leads in the strategic planning of these services and ensure delivery of multidisciplinary working, effective management and most efficient use of resources. To operationally manage the Orthopaedic Integrated Clinical Assessment and Treatment Service (ICATS) and team, providing professional and clinical leadership for and take a lead role in service improvement and achievement of access and performance targets through operational and strategic planning, delivery and evaluation through outcome based monitoring. Lead on the development of learning and development of governance frameworks to ensure the relevant regulatory body’s requirements for staff are met and that of the Regional Education Commissioning group. Lead in the development of research within the service and lead the staff in accessing funding/ approval for research projects. Work at a high clinical level acting as a source of clinical expertise to patients, physiotherapists and other professionals internal and external to the organisation reporting on clinical findings and advising on recommended orthopaedic management providing an expert opinion, educative and consultative support role. Work with a high degree of autonomy and authority as part of the Orthopaedic Service to independently carry out the assessment, diagnosis, management and treatment, if appropriate, of patients referred to the Orthopaedic Service from a variety of sources including Primary & Secondary Care Referrers in a variety of locations. Work as the Orthopaedic ICATS Clinical Lead to improve patient experience, affect clinical outcomes and ensure excellent standard of evidence based care in line with professional practice guidelines alongside national and local benchmarks. Work strategically in a collaborative and multidisciplinary way to fully integrate with the Regional Orthopaedic Service. Communicate with and advise referrers and service users ensuring timely and competent transfer of patient care to Orthopaedic Consultants or onward referral to other services through a triage process. .

Responsibilities

  • Act as an autonomous practitioner in multidisciplinary triage from a variety of referral sources including Primary & Secondary care, Emergency Departments & Tertiary Consultant referrals
  • Act as an expert practitioner with advanced specialist knowledge and skills in the diagnosis, management and appropriate discharge of patients with musculoskeletal conditions in a variety of locations, across community and secondary care settings

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • 7 years post graduate experience to include 2 years senior experience (Band 7 or equivalent).
  • 3 years musculoskeletal (MSK) or Orthopaedic ICATS senior clinical experience (Band 6 or equivalent).
