NHSCT Advanced Practicioner Level 1 Speech & Language Therapist for DLD/SSD


Job description

Within a Care Aims framework, the postholder will be responsible for the development and provision of an effective highly specialist speech and language therapy service to preschool and school aged children who have DLD/SSD in Thornfield House School / East Antrim Community SLT Clinics in accordance with the National and NHSCT Standards and Guidelines of Practice. The postholder will provide advice, support and the opportunity for case discussion, within a Care Aims framework, for SLTs in NHSCT in relation to the management of children with DLD/SSD on their caseload. The postholder will have excellent team working skills and be adaptable and flexible. The postholder will participate in the ongoing development of the Paediatric SLT Service to children who present with DLD/SSD. The postholder will provide specialist training, advice and support to less experienced SLTs, SLTAs. The postholder will provide specialist second opinion assessment and advice on treatment programmes/plans and approaches for other SLTs working with children with DLD/SSD across the Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy Service. The postholder will be required to provide an effective SLT service in accordance with National and Local Standards and Guidelines of Practice. The post holder will also be required to undertake research development and audit activities in relation to the speciality..

Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the specialist assessment and diagnosis of the full range of communication disorders in children with DLD or SSD
  • To provide specialist advice and treatment of the full range of communication disorders as appropriate and indicated. This will include knowledge of AAC systems appropriate to the client group.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • 3 years post qualification experience as a SLT to include 2 years experience at Band 6 relevant to the post Experience in providing and evaluating formal/informal training to parentsor carers and or other professional groups
