Deputy Childcare Team Leader


Job description

The Deputy Childcare Team Leader is responsible for assisting the Team Leader in the day to day organisation and running of our After School Club, including curriculum planning/monitoring delivery of all sessions. He/she is responsible in assisting the Team Leader in managing the team of staff and volunteers to ensure safe delivery of the service in accordance with the Trust's agreed policies and safeguarding procedures. As Deputy Team Leader he/she reports to the Team Leader. .

Responsibilities

  • The Deputy holds a lead role in establishing rapport, trust and respectful relationships with the children attending the session and their parents and or guardians.
  • Set up, in conjunction with staff/volunteers, daily play opportunities (as part of the wider curriculum) and take down at the end of the day and assist in planning the project programmes, of safe and creative play opportunities for 4-11 year olds.
  • Assist in developing and delivering a broad and stimulating curriculum for all children and assess learning on an ongoing basis and assist in planning and implementing Playwork activities.
  • Assist in organising and implementing safe collection of children from schools and at the end of each session, safe return to parents/carers and assist in producing monthly staff/volunteer rotas, including school pick-up rotas.
  • Assist in producing staff working hours for the finance team to produce the monthly payroll and assist in keeping accurate records of service users fees and payment receipts including monthly advance fee totals.
  • Assist in supervision of the children, team of Volunteers, Trainees, Assistant Playworkers and Playworkers and assist in administration duties, financial administration, the upkeep of accurate records on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Undertake the Designated Officer role within HASC in line with the Childcare Minimum Standards and understand and Implement HFT safeguarding policies and procedures and be aware of the related legislation/reporting procedures.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Paid experience in a Supervisory/Deputy/Leadership role in an Early Years/SAC/Youth setting over the last 5 years.
  • Excellent working knowledge of SAC/Childcare Minimum Standards and statutory guidance and proven practical experience of implementing good quality learning and play opportunities.
  • Minimum Level 5 in Playwork or Level 5 Leadership and Management of Children Care, Learning and Development or nearing completion Other qualifications that are acceptable are: Level 5 or above in Teaching, Social work or Youth Work.
  • GSCE or equivalent in English and Maths to Grade C or above First Aid Training including Paediatric First Aid and Safeguarding Training including Designated Officer.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate well with a range of stakeholders.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of running or developing a Breakfast Clubs.
  • Experience in running or developing Summer schemes.
  • Experience in using Seesaw and social media.
  • Experience of working in a social economy or in the voluntary and community sector.
