Job description

The Student Engineer will form part of the Technical Services team based in Enniskillen but covering the whole of the island of Ireland. Their main duties will include the preparation of Civil/Structural designs, drawings, specifications, costing documentation and contract documents for a number of Capital and Asset Management projects in line with the business objectives. Engineering - Student Placement 2nd September 2024 to 1st September 2025.

Responsibilities

• Assist with developing Civil/ Structural Engineering designs, drawings, specifications, costing documentation and the preparation of contract documents from projects in both Ireland and Northern Ireland.
• Undertake investigations and surveys for infrastructure projects in a water based environment.
• Prepare technical reports, meeting minutes, letters, memos etc using MS office packages including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Assist with internal and external stakeholder consultations.
• Assist with site supervision of projects.
• Compliance with health and safety and environmental legislation.
• Assist line manager in carrying out duties of the Body as required.
• Comply with and actively promote Waterways Ireland policies and procedures on all aspects of equality.
• Complete all training as required by Waterways Ireland within specified timeframes.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• The ability to plan and organise workload to achieve quality results within required timescales.
• The ability to effectively use IT systems: Competence in use of Microsoft Office packages e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Engineering packages e.g. AutoCAD, Civil 3D as appropriate.
• The ability to contribute as an effective team member and to support others.
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deal with internal /external customers with confidence.
• The ability to adapt to a changing environment and to work with minimum supervision.
