Sports Development Trainee


Job description

Required to complete essential vocational qualifications as part of the job role within first six months in post. Once suitably qualified and trained, will deliver a range of sporting, physical activity and wellbeing programmes in a variety of settings including council leisure facilities and the local community. Post holder will be required to adhere to all health and safety, supervision, customer service, and operational procedure, policies and practices..

Responsibilities

  • Undertake training required to work in sports development including recognised National Governing Body coaching qualifications and other relevant sport/physical activity qualifications while attending an ongoing programme of staff training.
  • Undertake on-the-job training as required.
  • Once suitably qualified, will assist in the delivery of a range of sporting, physical activity and wellbeing opportunities for all in a wide range of settings including leisure centres and in local communities.
  • Once suitably qualified, will assist in the delivery of the council's seasonal programmes including summer scheme.
  • Assist in all sporting, physical activity and wellbeing sessions ensuring they are structured, inclusive, progressive, fun and of a high quality to help ensure sustained participation.
  • Promote good working links between all partner agencies involved in the delivery of sport, physical activity and wellbeing programmes.
  • Ensure high levels of customer care, deal with customer related queries and be proactive in ensuring customers receive a positive customer experience when using facilities and escalate any queries as required.
  • Work as a member of a team and ensure regular communication with colleagues by exhibiting good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Carry out any other duties as necessary to fulfil the purpose and function of the post.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Must have an interest in sports and physical activity e.g. coaching/volunteering for an organisation providing participation opportunities.
  • Willing to undertake a range of National Governing Body Coaching and other sport/physical activity qualifications (e.g. coaching certificates include Irish FA National Coaching Certificate, GAA Foundation Award, Netball NI Level 1 Coaching Award).
  • Qualification(s) undertaken will depend on the strengths, experience and interest of the applicant.

Further Information

The Employer is: DERRY CITY AND STRABANE COUNCIL Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer. Wage: 16/17 £6.40, 18/20yrs £8.60, 21yrs or over £11.44 per hour
