Job description

The Employer is: KILREA GALLERY LTD (MARGEY & BJOURSON ART). Main duties will include customer care, handling sales, day to day gallery cleaning, administrative tasks, marketing and image preparation for the website and social media. The Gallery Assistants will be charged with various activities relating to the day-to-day running of the gallery. We are looking for individuals who are confident dealing with the public and can work on their own initiative, ideally with experience in a retail environment. Although it’s not necessary to be arts trained, it is important to have an interest in the visual arts, interiors and aesthetics in general. .

Responsibilities

  • Greeting visitors and helping them with their questions.
  • Taking notes based on customer enquiries for the artists to follow up with.
  • Processing sales.
  • Keeping record of sales and expenditure in Excel.
  • Developing and maintaining the client mailing list.
  • Keeping the front desk and gallery spaces tidy and presentable at all times.
  • Helping build the gallery's social media following by taking photographs and videos for posting.
  • Updating website (preparation of online preview images ahead of exhibitions).
  • Working on own initiative to deliver Business Development research project.
  • Distribution of promotional materials.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Interpersonal communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills required. Candidate should be an excellent communicator with the ability to talk to a wide range of people.
  • Listening & written communication skills: Good listening skills to understand what customer is looking for and excellent note taking skills.
  • Project-oriented skills: The individual must be able to multitask, switching from greeting and sales to administration as the need arises.
  • Social media skills: Should be savvy with social media and able to identify good content opportunities.
  • Computer skills: Familiar with Excel & Mail Chimp.
  • Initiative-taking skills: Being able to work independently and to take the initiative with new projects and to have confidence to help match customers to the perfect artwork for them.

Desirable Skills

  • Graphic Design: Photoshop and Canva.
  • Photography: An interest in photography for promotional purposes.
  • Mailing List development.

Further Information

The Employer is: KILREA GALLERY LTD (MARGEY & BJOURSON ART). Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended, and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer. Margey & Bjourson Art is the combined Studio and Gallery of Artists Adrian Margey and Evana Bjourson in Portrush. This is where the artists paint, showcase and sell their artwork to many visitors throughout the year. The artists also hold several touring exhibitions across Northern Ireland each year. First and foremost, the Gallery Assistants must have great interpersonal skills, and should be excellent communicators with the ability to talk to a wide range of people. The roles will suit individuals who can multi-task and are able to switch from administration tasks to greeting gallery visitors and handling sales as the need arises. The Gallery Assistants will be responsible for keeping the gallery clean, tidy and presentable at all times. The Assistants will also be required to help with planning, promoting and setting up of exhibitions. This work requires candidates to have a level of physical fitness that will enable them to carry artwork and on occasion, deliver promotional materials door-to-door. There is the option for some of the administrative work to be carried out remotely outside of the busy summer season.
