Job description

Trainee Leisure Attendant is required to complete essential vocational qualifications as part of the job role within the first six months in post. To undertake day-to-day cleaning and once suitably qualified and trained, lifeguarding and fitness instructor duties. Post holder will be required to adhere to all health and safety, supervision, customer service, and operational procedure, policies and practices..

Responsibilities

  • Undertake off-the-job training including vocational qualifications required to work in a leisure facility (e.g. National Pool Lifeguard, Level 2 Fitness Instructor Award and Level 2 Customer Service Award, while attending an ongoing staff training).
  • Undertake on-the-job training as required.
  • Ensure high levels of cleanliness are maintained throughout all leisure facilities and the immediate vicinity (including equipment) and carry out regular compliance and monitoring checks and address non-compliance as required.
  • Once suitably qualified, to perform lifeguard duties and ensure that customers conduct themselves appropriately and in accordance with the facilities rules, regulations and operational practices.
  • Once suitably qualified, to deliver basic gym services including inductions, programming, fitness instructing and supervision of the gym area to ensure customers are using the facility in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Once suitably qualified, to evaluate, develop and review exercise programmes as required to ensure the customer achieves their exercise and fitness goals either through a one-to-one session or small group training session.
  • Prepare set ups, dismantle and/or store equipment in the delivery of facility programmed services in accordance with standard operating procedures, and health and safety obligations.
  • Complete routine inspections of equipment and activity areas, carry out low level maintenance, report any defects and complete relevant administration documentation such as inspection logs as required.
  • Identify potential hazards, log and report all incidents/accidents ensuring in accordance with reporting procedures.
  • Ensure high levels of customer care, deal with customer related queries and be proactive in ensuring customers receive a positive customer experience when using facilities and escalate any queries as required.
  • Work as a member of a team and ensure regular communication with colleagues by exhibiting good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Carry out any other duties as necessary to fulfil the purpose and function of the post.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Must be able to swim and be water competent.
  • Must have an interest in leisure for example swimming, taking classes.
  • Must be willing to undertake NPLQ Swimming qualification and Level 2 Fitness qualification.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of health and safety at work.

The Employer is: DERRY CITY AND STRABANE DISTRICT COUNCIL Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer. Wage: 16/17 £6.40, 18/20yrs £8.60, 21yrs or over £11.44
