Playgroup Assistant
Job description
Carlisle Hall Playgroup is a well-known, popular local playgroup which is committed to delivering a safe, inclusive and welcoming space for pre-school aged children. The playgroup is run by a Committee and is monitored by DHSSPS. Through a range of learning initiatives, the team run a setting where children are happy, safe and able to reach their potential. We are currently in the position to appoint a Playgroup Assistant to the growing team. We are looking for an enthusiast person who is passionate about playing a key role in pre-school development. Working under the Playgroup Leader, the assistant should support the leader in ensuring that there is a safe, caring and welcoming environment for children and their families. .
Responsibilities
- Help ensure the playgroup hall is appropriately laid out before the session commences and is tidied up after the session ends.
- Help ensure good standards of hygiene are followed and that equipment is sae and regularly checked as recommended in DHSSPS guidelines.
- Help run day to day activities, providing safe, stimulating group play to meet the social, linguistic, creative, physical, imaginative, emotional needs of each child.
- Work as part of a team to deliver all the group activities.
- Carry out regular observations of the children in attendance and work with the Playgroup Leader to create daily actions to deal with any needs that arise.
- Willing to continue learning and development (course fees may be considered by the committee)
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all children within the Preschool.
- Advise the leader of any matter requiring attention, e.g.: concerns about a child, or equipment needing repaired/replaced.
- Take part in and organise fundraising activities, special events, outings and visits.
- Keep strictly confidential any personal information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is learnt as part of your employment.
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings and assist in the planning and preparation of the activities offered throughout the session, as laid down in guidance.
- The list of responsibilities above is not exhaustive and the leader may be expected to take on other duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- QCF Level 3 in childcare, Learning and Development or level 2 with 2 year's experience.
- At least 2 years experience in pre-school setting and willing to enrol on at least QVC level 2 in Childcare within 1 year of taking up post (at candidates own expense).
- 1 year's paid experience in a pre-school setting.
- Knowledge of child development including age appropriate areas of learning
- Good understanding of child protection and minimum standards.
Desirable Skills
- Experience of carrying out and using observations to support children's educational development.
- Valid and current Child Protection training.
- Valid and current First Aid certificate. Val
