Afterschool Assistant


Job description

To provide supervision of children in after school care by providing a safe, nurturing environment for the children. To provide and organise appropriate activities during the care sessions. You will be responsible for leading and coordinating fun, engaging activities, whether it be exercise, games, arts & crafts, homework, structured play or quiet time..

Responsibilities

  • To assist the team with the development of play programmes on a weekly basis
  • To maintain daily reports and observation records
  • To set out and tidy away equipment and furniture in a safe manner and to ensure that it is clean and safe for children to use
  • To ensure all rooms/bathrooms are cleaned and maintained to the set standards of hygiene
  • To adhere to policies set out by the management committee
  • To help maintain the discipline standards
  • To assist with food preparation
  • Record any accidents or injuries and carry our correct procedure for relaying information
  • Adhere to Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, Health & Safety, Fire safety & Data protection acts
  • Assist team members to provide an enjoyable, safe, clean, educational environment for 4-12 year olds
  • General cleaning duties
  • Be aware of administration procedures within the afterschool set-up
  • If required, assist with the supervision of homework
  • All duties will be carried out in the working conditions normally inherent in the particular job
  • Undertake any relevant training as may be considered necessary by the Management Committee (training may take place during out of work hours)
  • All duties must be carried out to comply with: Health and Safety at work (NI) Order 1978 Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments and Regulations and other legal requirements, codes of practice

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Formal childcare qualifications are not essential but desirable
  • Working towards or qualified in CACHE / QCF Level 2/3 in Children's Care Learning & Development or equivalent

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working with children in either a paid or voluntary capacity
  • Current First Aid certificate (training will be provided if necessary)
  • Food Handling certificate (training will be provided if necessary)
  • Willingness to attend in person/complete online staff training
