Job description

The Employer is: BREW AND BIA. We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Cook to join our cafe's culinary team. You will work closely with the head chef and kitchen staff to prepare and cook a variety of dishes, ensure food quality and presentation, and maintain a clean and organised kitchen. Your culinary passion, attention to detail, and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment will contribute to the overall success of our cafe. .

Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation: Assist in preparing ingredients, such as chopping vegetables, portioning meats, and measuring spices, following standardised recipes and portion sizes. Ensure all ingredients are fresh and of high quality.
  • Cooking: Assist in cooking and assembling a range of dishes, including breakfast items, sandwiches, salads, soups, and daily specials, according to established recipes and presentation guidelines.
  • Monitor cooking times and temperatures for food safety and consistency.
  • Plating and Presentation: Assist in plating and garnishing dishes, ensuring they meet our presentation standards. Collaborate with the head chef to maintain consistency in flavour, appearance, and portion sizes.
  • Kitchen Organisation: Maintain a clean and organised kitchen, including proper storage of ingredients, utensils, and equipment. Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines, including labelling and rotation of perishable items.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in monitoring ingredient levels, communicate with the head chef or kitchen manager to restock supplies, and report any shortages or discrepancies. Minimise waste and ensure efficient use of ingredients.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, including stovetops, ovens, grills, and fryers, ensuring they are in proper working condition. Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the head chef or kitchen manager.
  • Safety and Hygiene: Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage, and personal hygiene practices. Adhere to cleanliness standards and participate in regular cleaning and sanitisation activities.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Previous experience as a Kitchen Assistant or in a similar role, preferably in a cafe or restaurant setting.
  • Basic culinary skills and knowledge of food preparation techniques, including chopping, portioning, and basic cooking methods.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and follow instructions.
  • Attention to detail in food preparation, seasoning, and plating.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility to work in shifts, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.

The Employer is: BREW AND BIA. Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended, and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer.
