Job description

The Playgroup Leader will be in charge of the day to day running of Straidarran Community Playgroup to ensure safe and stimulating learning through play in a caring and welcoming environment. We want to provide children with happy secure environment to help them reach their full potential. The Leader will take charge of the staff team and report directly to the management committee..

Responsibilities

  • Ensure overall safety and wellbeing of the children. Ensure that planning and preparation is carried out and play activities to allow children to experience learning in all areas of the pre-school curriculum.
  • Carrying out regular observations and make assessments of each childs needs along with other staff in order to make individual plans as appropriate as the children reach their next stage in their development.
  • Oversee completion of risk assessments throughout the setting.Manage liaison with all relevant bodies to gather the necessary information for Health Visitors, Social Services and auditiors to ensure that the Playgroup is satisfying all the necessary.
  • Ensure the setting is appropriately laid out and is tidied up after the session ends and good standards of hygiene are followed.
  • Engaging parents in their childen’s learning and keeping them informed on progress. Liaising with the management committee and attending meetings. Attending relevant ongoing training courses and evening meetings.
  • Following GDPR guidelines regarding data. The leader will carry out any other reasonable duties relevant to the post.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • QCF Level 5 in Childcare, Learning and Development or equivalent Or QCF Level 3 in Childcare, Learning and Development or equivalent with applicant working towards or be enrolled in QCF Level 5 CCLD
  • A minimum of two years experience working in a pre-school education setting Knowledge of minimum standards and Northern Ireland pre-school curriculum. Experience of observations, planning, recording and evaluations

Desirable Skills

  • Up to date Safeguarding, Pediatric First Aid and Health and Safety training. Safeguarding/Child Protection Training
  • Relevant experience in managing an early years setting. Experience in observations and record keeping. Degree in relevant area. Proficiency in Microsoft Office The ability to work well with the team.
