Job description

The Employer is: 21 TRAINING. As IT Assistant you will be working with the IT team supporting them on hardware and software issues. You will perform a variety of moderately complex information technology support duties to ensure smooth delivery of technology services. You will gain a wide range of experience and have the opportunity to complete an IT qualification as part of the role. 21 Training deliver a number of training and employability support programmes. They are based in Strabane with training facilities in Strabane and Derry/Londonderry. 21 Training offer a 4 day working week (Mon-Thur). .

Responsibilities

  • Helpdesk Support: Responding to user inquiries and technical issues via phone, email, or in-person, and providing troubleshooting assistance.
  • Hardware and Software Installation: Assisting with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer hardware and software.
  • User Account Management: Creating, modifying, and deleting user accounts, as well as resetting passwords and managing permissions.
  • Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving technical problems with hardware, software, and network systems.
  • System Updates and Maintenance: Assisting with system updates, patches, and maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Inventory Management: Assisting with inventory management tasks, including tracking and ordering hardware and software supplies.
  • Training and Support: Providing basic training and support to users on how to use IT systems and software effectively.
  • Remote Support: Assisting remote users with technical issues through remote access tools or phone support.
  • Collaboration: Collaborating with other IT team members to escalate and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Security Compliance: Assisting with enforcing security policies and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Continuous Learning: Staying updated on emerging technologies and industry trends to enhance technical skills and knowledge.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Technical Proficiency: Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, and networking concepts. Proficiency in operating systems such as Windows, macOS, or Linux is often necessary.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently, using logical reasoning and analytical thinking.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication is crucial for interacting with users to understand their technical problems and provide assistance. This includes both verbal and written communication.
  • Attention to Detail: Being meticulous in documenting issues, resolutions, and system configurations to maintain accurate records and ensure consistency.
  • Adaptability: IT environments can be dynamic and fast-paced, requiring the ability to adapt to changing priorities and technologies.
  • Time Management: Prioritizing tasks effectively and managing time efficiently.
  • Basic IT Security Knowledge: Understanding of basic IT security principles and practices to help enforce security policies and protect sensitive data.
  • Learning: Willingness and ability to learn quickly and continuously improve technical skills and knowledge in response to evolving technology trends.
  • Remote Support Skills: Ability to provide technical support remotely using tools like remote desktop software, chat, or phone support.
  • Professionalism: Maintaining a professional demeanour and attitude when interacting with users, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Resourcefulness: Being resourceful in finding solutions to technical problems, whether through independent research, collaboration with colleagues, or consulting documentation.
  • Ethical Conduct: Adhering to ethical standards and confidentiality requirements when handling sensitive information and accessing IT systems.

Desirable Skills

  • GCSE English or equivalent. GCSE ICT or equivalent.

The Employer is: 21 TRAINING. Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended, and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer.
