Job description

Our client, are seeking Summer Playscheme Workers to join their team. These positions are based in various community centres in Belfast. The Playscheme Worker will be responsible to the designated Assistant Community Development Officer or Playworker to assist with the organisation of a Summer Playscheme, including day to day programming and development of activities. This will include activities in the centre and trips and activities away from the centre. Cecil Ward Building (BT1) Duncairn Community Centre (BT14) North Queen St Community Centre (BT15) Hammer Community Centre (BT13) Markets Community Centre (BT7) Ligoniel Community Centre (BT14) Inverary Community Centre (BT4) Knocknagoney Community Centre (BT4) Dee Street Community Centre (BT4) Morton Community Centre (BT9) Whiterock Community Centre (BT12) Divis Community Centre (BT12) Glen Road Community Centre (BT11).

Responsibilities

  • To organise, supervise and initiate in specific activities inside and away from the Summer Playscheme as determined by the Assistant Community Development Officer or Playworker.
  • To prepare and arrange materials and resources for use in the Summer Playscheme.
  • To support work with volunteers and staff to help develop the scope of the Summer Playscheme programme.
  • To fully implement good practice guidelines as set out within the Playwork Code of Practice and to comply with the guidelines set out within the Child Protection Policy.
  • To fully implement all Health and Safety procedures as required.
  • To be involved as required in evaluation and monitoring processes,
  • To assist with the administration and financial aspects of the playscheme as required.
  • To undertake such duties as may from time to time be required.
  • To undertake the duties in such a way as to enhance and protect the reputation and public profile of the client.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Access NI
  • At least one year's experience of the direct supervision of children as a major element, or, substantial part of your role, or, as part of daily duties; and planning and delivering organised play activities
  • An understanding of the legal responsibilities and practical aspects of working with children and young people.
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both verbally and in writing, for example, by responding to the needs of children, parents, other workers and staff.
  • The ability to effectively plan, prioritise and organise.
  • An understanding of health and safety responsibilities of the post to ensure the safety of employees, other workers and members of the public, especially children and young people.
  • The ability to deal with the public in a tactful and sensitive manner.
  • The ability to work on own initiative and as a member of a team.

Desirable Skills

  • NVQ Level II in Play Work, Child Care, or equivalent qualification.
