Afterschool's Supervisor


Job description

Lead and be part of the team. Carry out observations and record assessments of individual children. Ensure the layout is safe for the age group of children. Be aware of all policies and procedures and adhere to them. Attend and participate in all staff meetings. Do daily record keeping associated with the day to day running of the room. Ensure all Parents/Carers are kept fully informed of their child’s overall development within the group. Advise the Manager of any matter requiring immediate attention e.g. concerns about a child or equipment needing fixed or replaced. Meeting with room supervisors to ensure cohesion between rooms. Keep confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other members of staff which is learnt as part of the job. The Supervisor should keep diaries up to date with children who are currently attending, due to move over and new children who can start to keep the continuous flow running throughout the nursery while working alongside Management to make sure numbers are safe to do so. Guiding the staff within your room and instructing them to carry out certain duties such as cleaning, activities with children etc. Planning time which will be allocated to take time away from the children where there are staff to cover the ratios and carry out approved planning time where there will be plans put in place for the following months’ activities. Supervisors should be able to display a level of initiative in the absence of the Manager. If someone has a concern or query regarding a child’s health, a supervisor will be approached and asked advice and following instruction. A supervisor must lead by example, showing other members of staff how to conduct themselves appropriately while in and out of the setting. Supervisors will be expected to send staff home if not needed (with the approval of Management) to reduce the cost to the business. Supervisors should also keep an eye on ratios that they are all met and if any mistakes have been made through human error then point them out immediately so they can be amended. Supervisors should learn how to plan for breaks/lunches and send staff as and when required. Must carry out all other duties required and related to the job.

  • Manage staff within their room and report any concerns to the management team.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • NVQ level 3 (Early Years care and Learning Education) or equivalent And minimum 2 years experience working with children.

Further Information

Hours can be negotiated (2pm starts daily are also an option rather than 1pm starts if person interested should prefer this.) Extra hours are also available for someone who may been keen to start earlier during the day at Nursery Assistant rate of £11.44 per hour. Full-time Summer hours are also available.
