SPPG_Regional Clinical Coding Co-Ordinator, Band 7


Job description

It is widely recognised that consistent, accurate and timely coded clinical data is vital to the planning, provision and management of high quality healthcare services. This post holder will report to the Head of Clinical Informatics and will be responsible for developing the regional strategic direction of clinical coding across the NI HSC. This will include responsibility for managing the co-ordination and provision of a regional coding support function for Trust managers, clinicians and coding staff to ensure that improvements in clinical coding standards are achieved and maintained to a high standard..

Responsibilities

  • To support Trusts in their delivery of improvements in clinical coding in timeliness, coverage and quality to required standards and timescales.
  • To take forward regional improvements in quality of clinical coding in accordance with all national standards and guidelines with specific regard to implications for HRGs and new Activity Based Funding arrangements.
  • To develop, co-ordinate and manage a highly effective and high quality audit, training and support desk function and to make this available to all NI Trusts.
  • To identify sources of expertise in education and training in clinical coding.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Have a university degree or relevant professional qualification at graduate or diploma level, have the UK National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ) and have 4 years working knowledge of the International Classification of Diseases.
  • (preferably 10th Revision) and the OPCS Classification of Surgical Operations and Procedures (Fourth Revision) and any future revisions. OR
  • Have the UK National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ) and a minimum of 5 years working knowledge of the International Classification of Diseases (preferably 10th Revision) and the OPCS Classification of Surgical Operations and Procedures.
  • (Fourth Revision) and any future revisions.
  • Have experience of training staff.
  • Have worked with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internal and external to the organisation, to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport.
