Job description

The post holder will work within the Autism Service and will be part of a Multidisciplinary Team involved in the holistic assessment of children and young people where the need for an ASD and / or ADHD assessment has been identified. The post holder will be responsible for gathering all relevant information required for the assessment process, as per the NICE guidelines for ASD and / or ADHD and by using the appropriate assessment and diagnostic tools, i.e. DSM 5, ADOS, QB tests. The post holder will liaise with parents/carers, other professionals both health and education as required. The post holder will assist the senior diagnosticians within the service by sharing their findings, written and / or verbally. The post holder will adhere to Trust Policies, Procedures and Guidelines promoting evidence based practice. They will recognise the needs of children/young people, and their families and will provide early help support individually or through group work for children/young people, and parents/carers as required. Responsibilities

  • Participate in needs led and evidence based assessments of children/young people referred for ASD and/or ADHD assessment
  • To ensure that relevant team members are advised of assessment findings and contribute to the child/young persons overall assessment formulation
  • Develop and provide support for children/young people, and their families involved in the assessment process

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • One of the professional qualifications below: Level 1 Registered Nurse (1, 3, 5, or 8; Adult, Mental Health, Learning Disabilities or Children's) on the NMC Register
  • Or A professional social work qualification and registered on the appropriate part of the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) register, without condition
  • Or Diploma of the College of Occupational Therapists or BSc. (Hons.) in Occupational Therapy and Eligibility for registration with the Health & Care Professions Council
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience of working with children and young people with a diagnosis of ASD and/or ADHD and their families/carers
  • Have two years post qualifying experience, which must have been working with children and young people, or in mental health services or CAMHS
