Engineering Support Officer
Job description
Facilitate the operation of a gas network control room (24/7). To monitor the performance of a gas network, including emergency response support. Carry out a range of engineering duties to support the delivery of the asset maintenance & remedial programmes. Assist in updating and maintaining the company’s Geographical Information System (GIS). .
Responsibilities
- Monitor the performance of a gas network
- To facilitate the appropriate response to all alarms
- Emergency response support
- Liaise with members of the team to ensure the seamless and efficient operation of the control room (24/7)
- Design and costing of new gas network extension works (incl. New Build)
- Assist the asset maintenance programmes to meet the requirements of the Commercial Operations Directorate
- Assist with other administrative duties as directed by the Asset Manager
- Update and maintain Phoenixs Geographical Information System
- Perform data analysis and data queries within GIS
- Updating access databases and excel spreadsheets with relevant information as and when required
- Sharing & printing maps for internal & external stakeholders
- General filing duties
- To gain experience and be prepared to undertake fully, or in part, the activities of the Transportation Services team
- To act as the Network Controller within the Safe Control of Operations procedures and mains commissioning procedures
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 5 GCSE passes (or equivalent) to include English & Maths at Grade C or above
- Good computer skills, with particular emphasis on the use of Microsoft Excel, Access and Outlook
- Good verbal and written communication skills in order to deal with general public, contractors, and internal / external stakeholders
- Capable of working unsupervised and independently, but also as part of a multifunctional team
- Candidates with strong administrative/customer-orientated background may be considered
- At least one years relevant work experience in an engineering or numerical environment.
Desirable Skills
- An Engineering, Numerical or other appropriate level 5 qualification such as HND, BTEC, Degree, etc
- Knowledge of Network Analysis, GIS, CAD, PMAC and databases
