Job description

The Laboratory’s pre and post analytical support services underpin the successful functioning of all laboratory disciplines. Functions include receipt, initial processing and registration of samples onto the laboratory’s computer system, handling of post and general reception, admin and clerical duties. The post holder will be responsible for the efficient day-to-day management of the laboratory’s specimen and administration reception areas; and the laboratory store. At all times they will seek to provide an efficient and effective pre and post analytical service which satisfies relevant laboratory accreditation and regulatory standards and helps support the wider laboratory service. They will manage a team of support staff and will seek to develop the service according to changing service needs..

Responsibilities

• To manage the full range of pre and post analytical duties in accordance with Laboratory and Trust policy and to meet accreditation and regulatory standards.
• To lead and manage the team of support staff and ensure that all staff are aware of their responsibilities when handling and processing samples and that accuracy of data entry is paramount.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Have a minimum of 3 years demonstrable experience as a Biomedical Scientist, agenda for change Band 6 or higher, and have experience supervising or managing a team.
• Hold current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist AND Possess at least one of the following: IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma MSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent FIBMS.

Desirable Skills

• Formal Management Qualification.
