Job description

Dredger Operative (with On-shore Duties) NIFHA’s dredger, M.D. Kilmourne, has two crew members and a digger operator who together complete dredging operations. The First Mate’s prime task is to support the Dredger Master, to safely and efficiently, carry out a programme of dredging and dredger maintenance duties, as directed by the Harbour Master. The First Mate is required while working as a crew member to undertake all tasks as reasonably directed by the Dredger Master. When not dredging or maintaining the dredger; to carry out on-shore duties as directed, which will include a wide variety of tasks, including the operation, maintenance, repair, and cleaning of harbour facilities. Responsibilities

• Duties and responsibilities are subdivided into dredger and on shore duties and responsibilities. The percentage of time spent on the dredger and on shore duties is determined by the Harbour Maser. A significant element of the work is land based.
• The First Mate’s prime task is to support the Dredger Master, to safely and efficiently, carry out a programme of dredging and dredger maintenance duties, as directed by the Harbour Master.
• The First Mate is required while working as a crew member to undertake all tasks as reasonably directed by the Dredger Master.
• When not dredging or maintaining the dredger; to carry out on-shore duties as directed, which will include a wide variety of tasks, including the operation, maintenance, repair, and cleaning of harbour facilities.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years' sea going experience.
• Health and Safety at sea knowledge.
• Experience of operating and maintaining a commercial vessel or work boat over 10 metres.
