Job description

The role will involve the provision of a high quality specialist psychology service to children, adolescents and their families attending paediatric services within Belfast Trust. The post forms part of the paediatric psychology team which serves a range of medical specialties within paediatrics. The psychologist will provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy to patients and families, at the same time as offering advice and consultation on patients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers. Work is autonomous within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures. Responsibilities

  • Be responsible and accountable for the provision of high quality, specialist psychology services to children, young people and their families attending the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust Paediatric Clinical Psychology service.
  • Work autonomously as a Practitioner Psychologist within professional and Belfast Health & Social Care Trust guidelines.
  • Manage and be accountable for own caseload and provide specialist psychological assessment and intervention for individuals, carers and families involved with the service.
  • Provide individual, family or group-based psychological interventions with the aim of reducing distress and maximising recovery within the service.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Honours degree in Psychology (or equivalent) conferring Eligibility for Chartered Membership of BPS.
  • Postgraduate Doctorate (or equivalent) accredited by the BPS and qualifying the person to work as an HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist (in case of new graduates registration achieved by start of post).
  • A minimum 2 years post qualifying experience of working with a clinical population.
