We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Consultant Clinical Psychologist within the Intellectual Disabilities Service in the Belfast Trust. The post holder will be based within the Iveagh Centre, where they will provide input to address the psychological needs of children and young people with intellectual disabilities who present with complex mental health difficulties and/or significant behaviours that challenge. The post holder will clinically supervise the psychological work of the team and will demonstrate a sound understanding of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) as they will provide clinical support to the MDT and PBS practitioners, ensuring recommendations and guidance provided reflects the latest clinical evidence and best practice. While the role will entail collaborative working with multidisciplinary colleagues it will also focus on promoting a trauma informed and psychologically-focused approach to care in the inpatient intellectual disability center. There will be opportunity to work on service development projects within a Quality Improvement framework. The post holder will be passionate about the rights of people with an intellectual disability, and can display the skills and creativity to ensure psychological approaches are accessible to a group of service users with highly complex needs. The post holder will evidence their commitment to innovation in the field of intellectual disability through prior experience or up to date knowledge in the application of evidence based therapeutic interventions adapted to the needs of this client group.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Honours degree in Psychology.
  • Professional post-graduate Doctoral qualification in Psychology recognised by the British Psychological Society (BPS), or BPS statement of equivalence.

Further Information

Salary: £74,290 - £85,601 per annum pro rata. Location: Iveagh Centre, 67 Broadway, Belfast, BT12 6HF.
