Job description

Working as part of the Respiratory and Specialist Services team within BHSCT and on the Royal (RVH) site, the post holder will be a key member of the respiratory MDT. They will have a special interest in developing and extending the scope of services to acute respiratory medicine patients and those requiring cardio-respiratory rehabilitation. The post holder will work within the Physiotherapy team which covers Post aesthetic care unit. The post holder will have responsibility for maintaining provision of a quality, specialised service within PACU and work with relevant managers and clinicians to develop these in line with organisational requirements. As Advanced practitioner and lead within Respiratory medicine for the RVH site, the Physiotherapist will provide a comprehensive respiratory service to patients under the care of BHSCT respiratory consultants. Liaise with Community Respiratory services to ensure appropriate referral and on-going management for respiratory patients discharged from hospital. As an autonomous practitioner, the post holder will work closely with the team lead covering the acute site to ensure patient flow within respiratory medicine. The post holder will provide expert clinical opinion and advice to respiratory consultants and the wider MDT. The post holder will work with relevant managers and clinicians taking responsibility for maintaining the provision of a quality, specialised service developed in line with organisational requirements. They will also be responsible for ensuring the specialist service meets national standards of care. To promote service development by leading clinical audits and research. The remit of this post may be subject to change in light of changing service need. In response to continued service development, the post holder will be required to undertake flexible working including extended working and on-call duties as determined by operational requirements. There is an expectation that the post holder will complete a PG certificate in medicines management enabling registration as an independent Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP).

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Diploma or degree in Physiotherapy Studies.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working with palliative patients Ability to carry out ABGs independently.
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
