Job description

The NICS comprises nine departments that support the Northern Ireland Executive and Ministers. We do this by developing and implementing government policies and legislation and delivering key public services in areas such as health public finances, social development, justice, education, regeneration, environment, culture, agriculture, economic development, employment and transport. In addition, the Public Prosecution Service is a non-Ministerial Department staffed by Civil Servants. All civil servants are appointed on merit and on the basis of fair and open competition. The NICS is seeking to fill Curatorial Grade E vacancies in the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland that require specific skills and experience. The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), within the Department for Communities, is the statutory national archive for Northern Ireland.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the PRONI Director and senior colleagues to deliver PRONI statutory responsibilities and strategic objectives.
  • Providing advice and guidance to PRONI staff and other stakeholders in relation to archival and records management principles, policy and practices; including development and delivery of bespoke training.
  • Contributing to managing and monitoring branch resources to deliver services and performance objectives; including line management of staff in line with NICS HR policy.
  • Representing PRONI when engaging with a variety of stakeholders including NICS Departments, wider NI public sector, professional networks, and at public events.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Have at least a second-class honours degree in any discipline.
  • Have at least one of the following:
  • (i) A recognised post-graduate archival or records/information management qualification e.g Diploma in Archive Administration or an MA in Archive Administration or Records Management.
  • (ii) At least 1 years experience in applying archival and/or records/information management principles, policies and practices.
  • Have at least 2 years experience developing and implementing archival and/or records/information management policies and/or procedures.
