Job Title: Playgroup Assistant Location: Derrytrasna Playgroup, Derrytrasna, Co. Armagh Reports To: Playgroup Leader, Manager Working Hours: 9am-1pm Monday to Friday Contract Type: Term Time Only Temporary Start Date: Sept25 About Derrytrasna Playgroup Derrytrasna Playgroup is a nurturing and inclusive early years setting that provides high quality pre school education for children aged 3 to 4 years. We are committed to supporting each child’s development through a play-based, child centred curriculum in line with the Northern Ireland Pre School Curricular Guidance. Role Purpose The Playgroup Assistant will work alongside the Playgroup Leader and other staff to create a safe, stimulating, and caring environment where children can learn and develop through play. The role involves supporting children's physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development, ensuring their wellbeing, and contributing to a positive team ethos.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning and delivery of age-appropriate activities in line with the Early Years curriculum.
• Support children’s learning and development through structured and free-play activities.
• Ensure the care, safety, and wellbeing of all children in the setting.
• Help with the setting up, tidying, and cleaning of the playroom and equipment.
• Encourage positive behaviour and social interaction between children.
• Observe and record children’s progress and report any concerns to the Playgroup Leader.
• Work in partnership with parents, carers, and other professionals when required.
• Adhere to all safeguarding, child protection, and health & safety policies and procedures.
• Attend team meetings, training sessions, and contribute to the continuous development of the playgroup.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• A minimum of a Level 2 qualification in Childcare, Early Years, or equivalent (e.g., CACHE, CCLD).
• Experience working with children aged 3 to 4 years in a childcare or educational setting.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices.

Desirable Skills

• Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education or equivalent.
• First Aid, Child Protection, or Food Hygiene certificates.
• Understanding of the Northern Ireland Pre-School Curriculum.
• Experience working in a funded playgroup or similar early years setting.
